Together with the project "McLuhan Meets Pompei", promoted by the "Associazione Amici di Media Duemila ONLUS" in collaboration with the City Council for Communication and Technological Innovation of the City of Pompei, the FakePress and Art is Open Source teams have started their education program on augmented reality in two high schools in the city of Pompei (Liceo Scientifico Pascal and Istituto Bartolo Longo).

On November 11th and 12th 2011 two workshops engaged around 100 students on the theme of Ubiquitous Publishing: the possibility to tell new stories and invent new narratives using technologies which allow us to transform any body, architecture, objects and entire cities into spaces for publication.

The workshops were based on the experience of novel practices.

The MACME and NeoReality platforms produced by FakePress have been used to create cross media content, QRCodes and Augmented Reality content, together with students: every one of them will benefit from the availability of a dedicated platform, Ubiquitous Pompei, which will remain at their disposal to enact collaborative processes between students, professors and the city administration.

The workshops ended with a call for action: students were invited to imagine their own version of the "augmented city".

In a public ceremony on December 14th the institutions will evaluate the proposals and give students a certificate documenting their participation to the project.

Will students be the authors of the digital strategy for the city of Pompei?

Con il progetto "McLuhan incontra Pompei", promosso dall'Ass. Amici di MediaDuemila in collaborazione con l'Assessorato alla Comunicazione e Innovazione Tecnologica del Comune, il team di FakePress e Art is Open Source porta alla scoperta della realtà aumentata gli studenti di due istituti scolastici: il Liceo Scientifico Pascal e dell'Istituto Bartolo Longo.

L'11 e il 12 novembre scorso, due workshop hanno coinvolto circa cento ragazzi in un percorso intensivo di formazione sulla cosidetta "editoria ubiqua": la possibilità di raccontare nuove storie e inventare nuove narrative attraverso tecnologie che consentono di trasformare corpi, architetture, oggetti e intere città in spazi di pubblicazione.

Il tutto senza fermarsi alla teoria.

Durante i workshop, le piattaforme MACME e NeoReality prodotte da FakePress sono state utilizzate per creare contenuti crossmediali, QRcode e in realtà aumentata insieme ai ragazzi. Gli studenti e i docenti coinvolti riceveranno inoltre un accesso personale a "Ubiquitous Pompei", piattaforma creata per il progetto che rimarrà loro in gestione per poter continuare a sperimentare autonomamente.

I workshop si sono conclusi con l'invito rivolto alle classi ad immaginare la propria "città aumentata" con le tecnologie messe loro a disposizione: il 14 dicembre prossimo un evento pubblico che coinvolgerà le istituzioni vedrà la consegna degli attestati di partecipazione e la presentazione delle idee degli studenti.

Che la Pompei ubiqua la facciano proprio i giovani?
Che Pompei diventi realmente un laboratorio innovativo, sperimentale e dal basso sulle opportunità offerte da questi nuovi linguaggi, dove per una volta proprio le scuole sono protagoniste?

Le premesse potrebbero esserci. Resta da capire quali idee esprimeranno questi giovanissimi e quale sarà la risposta delle istituzioni.
